Abstract

The food processing industry's high energy consumption, extensive water use, and huge waste generation have a significant environmental impact. Eco-friendly technology that supports sustainability without sacrificing food quality, safety, or efficiency must be adopted in order to address these issues. The main developments in sustainable food processing are examined in this paper, including the creation of intelligent and biodegradable packaging solutions, waste minimisation strategies like water recycling and by-product utilisation, and sophisticated energy-efficient methods like high-pressure processing and ohmic heating. Furthermore, the study looks at the technological, legal, and financial difficulties of putting these improvements into practice and talks about prospective developments that can improve food processing sustainability even further.
