ROLE OF WOMEN IN SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION: INDIAN AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Women have historically contributed to the social evolution of civilizations, yet their role has often remained underrepresented in academic discourse. The 21st century has reshaped gender narratives, introduced new opportunities, accelerated globalization, and empowered women as change-makers across sectors. This research paper explores the multifaceted role of women in social transformation with a comparative lens on India and the global context. It investigates how women’s participation in education, economy, governance, technology, culture, health, movements, and sustainable development has influenced structural changes in society. The study draws from qualitative research, documentary analysis, and comparative evidence to outline emerging trends and continuing challenges. Findings reveal that women's involvement has significantly strengthened democratic values, enhanced socio-economic progress, and stimulated cultural modernization. Yet persistent inequalities, digital divides, socio-cultural constraints, and institutional biases continue to restrict women’s transformative potential. This paper concludes with policy suggestions, emphasizing inclusive development, gender-sensitive governance, and the strengthening of women-led initiatives as essential for progressive social transformation.
