Abstract

The Indian Constitution, adopted on 26th November 1949 and implemented on 26th January 1950, marked the birth of the world's largest democratic republic. As India completes 75 years of constitutional journey, it is necessary to reflect on the journey of this transformative document that continues to shape the nation's political, social and economic landscape. The constitution of India is not merely a legal text but a living document consisting the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity visualized by its framers. This paper examines the evolution of the Indian Constitution over the past seven and half decades, focusing on its foundational principles, amendments, judicial interpretations, socio- political impacts, and challenges faced in contemporary times. The study highlights the adaptability of the constitution in addressing new realities while safeguarding democratic values. It also analyses the role of the Indian Republic in sustaining the world's largest democracy through participatory governance, social justice initiatives, and institutional resilience.
