Exportable Grape Cultivation in Hilly Area: A Case Study of Hivre and Palshi Villages of Khanapur Block in Sangli District

Abstract

In recent period, the demand for agricultural products has been increasing. The demand for fruit products is increasing rapidly. The climate in India is favorable for fruit production. The climate of Sangli district is very conducive to grape cultivation. This paper evaluates the economic analysis of exportable grape cultivation in Khanapur block of Sangli District which was carried during period 2023 -24. For this study two villages were selected namely Hivre and Palshi based on highest area of grape cultivation under exportable grapes in Khanapur block of Sangli District. Primary data was collected from 30 grape growers through pretested interview schedules to estimate cost of cultivation of grapes, net and gross returns and profitability. Land, cultivation methods, water and other costs are varying across the study area, hence production costs, total output and net returns is very. The attempt has been made to find out actual cost of cultivation and profitability by using average data of 30 grape growers in Hivre and polshi villages of Khanapur block in Sangli district. The cost of cultivation was worked out using the standard cost concept of cost A1. A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and C3. The cost of cultivation was Rs.392900.91per acre. the maximum cultivation expenditure was for plant protection (fungicide, insecticides, water cost and Labour wages). Gross return from per acre grape cultivation is Rs. 766088.0, net return from per acre grape cultivation on was Rs. 373187.88 and output ratio was 1.9498. which was more than Unity shows economic profitability in grape production.
