Abstract

Disaster management is the scientifically sound solution to the adverse effects of natural or man-made disasters on society or the environment. Disaster management is the planning and actions taken to prevent and deal with disasters. It includes preparation before a disaster occurs, immediate response during a disaster and it involves rebuilding communities and the environment after a disaster. The main objective of disaster management is to reduce the damage caused by natural and man-made disasters. The National Disaster Management Authority is the lead agency for disaster management in India, operating under the National Disaster Management Act of 2005. This authority creates a framework for dealing with natural and man-made disasters.  According to the Constitution of India, every person has the right to security of life and property. At the same time, since maintaining national unity and security is the fundamental duty of every individual and organization, it is natural that disaster management is the responsibility of the government and every citizen.
