Challenges of Unemployment in India: Socio-Economic Implications and Remedies

Abstract

Unemployment is one of the most pressing socio-economic challenges confronting India in the twenty-first century. Despite sustained economic growth and structural transformation, the Indian economy has failed to generate adequate employment opportunities for its rapidly growing labour force. The problem of unemployment has assumed alarming proportions, particularly among youth, educated individuals and rural populations. Unemployment not only leads to loss of income and productivity but also creates serious social problems such as poverty, inequality, social unrest and psychological stress. This research paper aims to examine the major challenges of unemployment in India, analyse its socio-economic implications and suggest effective remedies. The study emphasizes the need for employment-oriented growth, skill development, promotion of labour-intensive sectors and inclusive policy measures to address unemployment in a sustainable manner.
