Challenges of Unemployment in India: Socio-Economic Implications and Remedies
Abstract
Unemployment is one of the most serious socio-economic challenges facing India today. Despite rapid economic growth, technological advance, and demographic advantages, a large section of the Indian population remains unemployed. This cause not only affects individuals but also has extensive consequences for families, communities, and the national economy. Unemployment leads to poverty, inequality, social unrest, psychological stress, and reduced economic productivity. The present research paper attempts to examine the nature, causes, and challenges of unemployment in India, analyse its socio-economic implications, and suggest effective remedies and policy measures. The study is based on secondary data collected from government reports, academic literature, and national surveys. The paper highlights structural problems in education, skill mismatch, population growth, rural-urban divide, technological changes, and informal employment as key contributors to unemployment. Finally, it proposes comprehensive solutions including education reforms, skill development, employment-oriented growth, promotion of entrepreneurship, rural development, and effective implementation of government schemes
