सार

Movies are a marvelous tool to engage a large audience and provide entertainment, mixing different art forms such as acting, dancing, music and painting. Hindi movies portray society as it is, giving a picture of people's lifestyles, interests and political developments, and can influence community transformation. Women are a powerful force in the community and one indicator of a society's quality is how it treats its women. Though law says women should be given equal treatment, they still find it hard to raise their voices both at home and in society. The predominance of men in Indian society persists. This paper traces how Bollywood has evolved from depicting women in traditional, stereotyped roles to portraying them as CEOs, detectives, athletes and independent protagonists in films such as Queen, Thappad, Kahaani, Piku, Dangal and Neerja, showing the complex, realistic lives of modern women.
