AI AND ETHICS IN EDUCATION – CAN TECHNOLOGY REPLACE TEACHERS?

Abstract

The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in educational environments has prompted a re-evaluation of traditional teaching models and the evolving role of educators. AI-driven systems including intelligent tutoring platforms, adaptive learning technologies, and automated assessment tools offer significant advancements in personalized instruction and operational efficiency. These tools can analyze learning behaviors, tailor academic content to individual needs, and alleviate administrative burdens on teachers, thereby enhancing productivity within classrooms. Despite these benefits, the increasing dependence on AI raises critical ethical concerns, especially regarding student data privacy, algorithmic bias, and fairness in educational opportunities. This study employs a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach to examine the functional effectiveness of AI tools and the limitations that highlight the necessity of human involvement in education. Quantitative findings indicate that stakeholders value AI primarily as a supportive instrument rather than a substitute for teachers. Qualitative insights further emphasize that emotional intelligence, mentorship, and moral guidance core elements of holistic development remain distinctly human strengths that AI cannot replicate. The research concludes that the future of education lies not in replacing educators but in adopting a balanced human-AI partnership. AI should serve as a complementary resource that enhances instructional practices, while teachers retain their indispensable role in fostering creativity, empathy, and social skill development. The study provides policy recommendations for ethical AI governance and emphasizes the importance of teacher digital literacy training, ensuring that technological progress continues to support human-centered educational values.
