A STUDY OF URBAN SLUM AREAS IN SANGLI, MIRAJ & KUPWAD MUNICIPAL COARPORATION

This research paper examines the socio-economic status of the slum area and slum dwellers in the Sangli–Miraj–Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) area of Maharashtra. In this area the study focuses on slum dwellers living conditions, occupation, education, income, housing, and sanitation. The analysis is based on field surveys and secondary data collected from government reports and census documents. The findings reveal that although urbanization has created opportunities, a large section of the slum population still struggles with poor housing, irregular employment, inadequate sanitation, and low literacy levels. Their lifestyle and living standards not well. The paper concludes with recommendations to improve the living standards and socio-economic conditions of slum dwellers.
