The sugar industry has a significant impact on agriculture in Solapur District, Maharashtra, India. While it provides economic benefits and employment opportunities, it also poses environmental and sustainability challenges. The high-water demand for sugarcane cultivation exacerbates water scarcity, and untreated effluent from sugar factories contaminates water sources and soil. To mitigate these impacts, sustainable agricultural practices, water-saving technologies, and effective wastewater management systems are essential. This study highlights the need for a balanced approach to promote agricultural development while ensuring environmental sustainability in Solapur District.
