Cultural Exchange Social MovementsAbstract
This paper examines how cultural exchange — historical migration, interregional marriages, linguistic contacts, religious integration, and economic networks — has shaped the social identity and collective action of Reddy communities living in Maharashtra. It argues that cross-regional diffusion of norms and institutional ties (to Andhra/Telangana/Karnataka Reddy networks) has both generated hybrid cultural practices and supplied organizational resources that enable contemporary social movements: economic assertion, political mobilisation, and community welfare initiatives. The paper synthesizes historical sources, regional studies, and recent reporting to (1) trace principal vectors of cultural exchange, (2) identify emergent movement dynamics among Reddy groups in Maharashtra, and (3) discuss implications for local politics and social policy.
