Indian Knowledge System and Social Information

The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) refers to the traditional knowledge developed in India over thousands of years. It includes philosophical, scientific, artistic, medical, environmental, and social systems of understanding rooted in Indian civilization. The complex, plural, and historically deep body of knowledge, epistemologies practices and social norms developed in the Indian subcontinent over millennia. This research paper examines its roots, major domains, social information embedded within it. There is a discussion of the values, norms, social structures, communal life, and its contemporary relevance, challenges, and implications for education, society and policy. This study argues that IKS is not merely a set of ancient texts but is deeply intertwined with social information systems. The ways of living, organising, transmitting knowledge, sustaining communities offers alternative frameworks for addressing modern social issues.
