NEP, Sustainable Development, Rural DevelopmentAbstract
This research paper examines the integral relationship between Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and sustainable rural development in India. By analyzing historical precedents and contemporary case studies, the study demonstrates how traditional knowledge domains including agriculture, water management, handicrafts, and wellness practices provide effective frameworks for environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and culturally appropriate development models. The findings reveal that integrating IKS with modern technologies and policy initiatives can significantly enhance community resilience, reduce ecological footprints, and preserve cultural heritage while advancing India's sustainable development goals. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for mainstreaming IKS in rural development strategies to achieve holistic and equitable progress.
