LINKING AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRY: THE ROLE OF COOPERATIVE ESTATES IN KOLHAPUR’S RURAL TRANSFORMATION

Abstract

Agriculture remains the backbone of rural economy in India, and the modernization of the sector depends heavily on its integration with industrialization and cooperative organizations. The concept of Cooperative Industrial Estates (CIEs) provides an entirely novel and innovative method of integrating the produce of agriculture with value addition, employment generation, and overall developmental activities of the rural areas. The present study aims to study the role of CIEs for the modernization of agriculture and developmental activities for the area surrounding Kolhapur district in the state of Maharashtra. The study will make use of the mixed methodology approach to investigate the role of CIEs for the modernization of agriculture and the overall developmental activities of the district. The study will also make use of visual representation techniques in the form of charts and tables to determine the role of CIEs for the enhancement of productivity, employment generation, and distribution of income amid the farming community. The study outcome will establish the fact that cooperative estates play an essential role as drivers for the sustainable development of the rural sectors through the integration of agriculture and industry.
